چکیده

Open inguinal hernia repair remains the gold standard to treat inguinal hernias and is associated with a low recurrence and complication rate [1,2,3,4]. The majority of inguinal hernia repairs are completed on an outpatient basis. Local, spinal, epidural, and general endotracheal anesthesia are used depending on patient comorbidities and surgeon preference. Overall, patient recovery is relatively quick and patients return to their normal activities in approximately four weeks. Complications may include hematoma, seroma, chronic groin pain, surgical site infection, and injury to adjacent organs. Femoral nerve injury may occur but is an exceedingly rare event following an open inguinal hernia repair. This manuscript details a patient with a transient sensorimotor paralysis of the femoral nerve following an open inguinal hernia repair. Various etiologies are discussed along with a review of

Open femoral hernia repair: one skin incision for all

BACKGROUND Femoral hernias are relatively uncommon, however they are the most common incarcerated abdominal hernia, with strangulation of a viscus carrying significant mortality. Classically three approaches are described to open femoral hernia repair: Lockwood's infra-inguinal, Lotheissen's trans-inguinal and McEvedy's high approach. Each approach describes a separate skin incision and dissect...

The Role of Cremaster Muscle as a Cause of Ascending Testis after Inguinal Hernia/Hydrocele Repair

Background Ascending testis (AT) is one of the rare but serious complication that may occurs following inguinal hernia/hydrocele repair. We aimed to review our more than 7 years’ experience and discuss the possible mechanism through which the AT possibly occurs following inguinal hernia/hydrocele repair. Materials and Methods A retrospective analysis of 7,212 boys who had undergone inguinal her...

A Contralateral Complication of Extra-peritoneal Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair

A 63 year old female underwent an uncomplicated total extraperitoneal repair of a right direct inguinal hernia. One week later she presented with a strangulated left femoral hernia. We believe the dissection of the extraperitoneal space caused bleeding which tracked down through the femoral canal resulting in a femoral hernia. To date there are no reports of such a complication following total ...

Outcome of the patients with chronic mesh infection following open inguinal hernia repair

PURPOSE Hernia repairs are the most common elective abdominal wall procedures performed by general surgeons. The use of a mesh has become the standard for hernia repair surgery. Herein, we discuss a management strategy for chronic mesh infections following open inguinal hernia repair with onlay prosthetic mesh. METHODS In this study, 15 patients with chronic mesh infections following open ing...

Femoral vein occlusion following Mc-Vay repair.

Three cases of femoral vein occlusion following a Mc-Vay repair for femoral and inguinal hernias are presented. Phlebography demonstrated constriction of the femoral vein at the site of the repair. This complication is due to compression of the femoral vein by too tight a repair.
